attempting a nap in an august park

PDF

i went out to lie on the grass
tired of stone cities with their marble and smooth polish
tired of being
of thinking and not sleeping
and not able to see all the stars

the park was full with noise and people
a lawnmower hummed in the distance
laughter and dog barks and the smell of sunscreen mixed with bug spray
the sun was bright but not hot enough to melt my bones into the earth
the grass itched.
